About Surgical Waitlist Measurements
A surgical waitlist should be opened within two business days of the Decision to Treat Date, and closed within two business days of the Actual Procedure Date.
Wait 1 and Wait 2
Surgical wait times are measured as follows:
Surgery Consult Wait Time (Wait 1)
- Wait 1 is the total number of days the patient waited for the first surgical consultation with a clinician, it is measured:
- From the Referral Date, the day the referral is received by the clinician’s office or Diagnostic Assessment Program/Unit or Central Intake
- To the Consult Date, the day of the first consultation with the clinician, minus any Dates Affecting Readiness to Consult due to patient delays
Surgery Procedure Wait Time (Wait 2)
- Wait 2 is the total number of days the patient has been waiting for the procedure (if the patient has not yet received the procedure), or the total number of days the patient waited for the procedure. It is measured:
- From the Decision to Treat Date that the clinician and patient agree that surgery is required
- To the Procedure Date when the procedure is performed, minus any Dates Affecting Readiness to Treat due to patient delay
Variance Measurement
- A waitlist entry variance is the difference, either positive or negative, between the current wait time of a patient and the defined provincial access target based on assigned priority level
