Surgery Mapping and WTIS User Registration Protocols
You should only map service areas and procedures that your surgeons are registered to perform.
How to Map Adult Cancer Surgeries in MPM
All adult surgical procedures for known or suspected cancer performed in a fully-equipped operating room should be reported to the WTIS as a surgical oncology procedure, regardless of the surgical specialty of the performing clinician. Map Adult surgical procedures in MPM as follows:
- Service Area: Oncology Procedure
- Service Detail 1: indicates location of tumour
- Service Detail 2: indicates purpose (Treatment, Reconstruction, Diagnostic or Palliative)
How to Map Pediatric Cancer Surgeries in MPM
There is no "Pediatric Oncology Procedure" option under service area in the WTIS. Pediatric cancer related surgeries in the MPM are mapped as follows:
Example: Pediatric Otolaryngic Oncology case
- Service Area: relevant pediatric service area (i.e. Pediatric Otolaryngic)
- Service Detail 1: location of tumour
- Service Detail 2: map as appropriate
WTIS Registration activities may be required for your surgeon
Surgeon WTIS Registration Protocols:
- Surgeons can be registered for 1 adult Specialty, 1 equivalent Paediatric Specialty and all oncology procedures
- General Rule: If a surgeon has two specialties, register them for the specialty that is most applicable to their main practice
- Exceptions: If there is a need for the surgeon to be registered for more than one specialty (via WTIS User Registration tool), a request can be submitted for review by the Ontario Health team

Note: LRAs use the User Registration feature to request access for surgeons.
